TowBoat U.S. expands territory Lake Guntersville to Joe Wheeler to Wilson Dam...
|
Jim Helms had his hands full on Saturday, May 9th at Alred Marina. More than 100 marina slip holders attended a cook-out hosted by Precision Towing Services, the TowBoat U.S. franchisee who has just expanded territory to include Wheeler Lake all the way to Wilson Dam.
"The response we're having has been tremendous. Boating is a growing pasttime here on the Tennessee River. Last year, we saw more traffic than expected. We expect increases this year, too," says Helms.
One thing to note. When a private enterprise is established to offer towing, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary or the Marine Police units can no longer give towing in that area at no charge.
If you run out of gas...boat won't start...and you need a tow, you'll have to pay for that towing service unless you can get a fellow boater to haul you in.

Alabama Marine Police' John Clifton attended the cookout at Alred's Marina on Saturday. "We're under the same tight budgets as everyone. We have to cover more area...there's more boats. We've certainly done our share of towing boats in...but this is a good thing for the marine police. It'll allow us to do our jobs better knowing there's a service to do the towing."
The TowBoat U.S. policy was reduced late last year for inland waterway towing. The unlimited towing service is $53 a year which includes membership to BoatU.S., the nation's largest boating advocacy organization. boatus.com and towboatus.com
