"We knew we'd rebuild.  You can't find available slips on the Tennessee River all ready.  We've got to put our boats somewhere," says Max Thompson, who rode out the storm on his boat with wife Linda.

Lake Guntersville Yacht Club docks were blown away, twisted and contorted by straight line winds this past Easter Sunday night.  Thompson and others at the marina confirm that local TV nor NOAA weather radio were giving warnings or even correct wind speeds.

"It was just one of those rare occurences we see on the river sometimes.  Like it came up all of a sudden."  Thompson recommended marinas look over their current insurance policies and update them on a regular basis.  "Costs of building materials, lumber, fuel prices...all kinds of things impact what it costs to be really insured."

But, according to Thompson who lives aboard his boat at the Yacht Club, the process is “Full Speed Ahead” with plans to rebuild the marina.

Salvage operations are underway to dismantle and remove all of the storm damaged docks.

The two new docks will include approx. 16 ea. 40’ slips, 28 ea. 50’ slips, 18 ea. 60’ slips, and 5 ea. 70’ slips; all of which are covered, plus 2 uncovered 50’ slips.

All other facilities, such as the pool, clubhouse, party dock, and gossip hall remain undamaged, and all social functions remain as originally scheduled.

"I love it here.  I love the people and the staff.  We'll all just make it better than before,"
