LIFE ON THE WATER featured the Bella Mia and Capt. Tim Harrison in our May June issue's article 'The Little Shrimp Boat That Could'.
|
Shrimp season starts late due to cool waters in the Gulf.
Struck by lightning in Mobile Bay knocks out all electronics.
An economy that's reeling Americans in every direction.
We needed a story like Capt. Tim Harrison right about now. He's got more persistance in his little pinkie than most of us do in a lifetime.
He and the Bella Mia shrimp boat have finally made it to Demopolis, Alabama. Fred and Kim Hansard have them moored at the marina, Demopolis Yacht Basin.
The good news: They've sold over 300 pounds of shrimp since Sunday. Probably because they're only $4.99 a pound for the best looking shrimp you'll find. Sweet Gulf Coast Mississippi grown shrimp. You can buy direct from this shrimper. He decided that he wouldn't wait on the customers to come to him. He'd just come to the customers.
"Parker Towing out of Tuscaloosa saved our life. When we got struck by lightning in Mobile Bay, Parker's Capt. Taylor radioed me and said 'just follow me...' and I did and we got through without any electronics working. Then some of their deckhands pooled their own money to buy shrimp for us so they could have fresh boiled shrimp.
Another treat on the Bella Mia: LIVE CRABS.
So with determination and gut, Capt. Harrison and crew will push on to Columbus, Mississippi on Sunday July 19th. If you want to buy fresh shrimp or crab...come aboard and meet the crew...tour a real shrimp boat...contact Capt. Harrison at 228-363-2159.
