Almost forced into the business, Precision Towing Services, LLC of Scottsboro is the TowBoat U.S. franchisee owner for Guntersville and Wheeler Lake on the Tennessee River and services surrounding lakes as well.
Time after time, calls for salvage were coming in. So owner, Jim Helms, started researching what needed to be done by law to be environmentally safe and the agencies to get clearance through.
"EPA and definitely Alabama Department of Environmental Management are the 2 agencies that are most important. After the tornado hit Guntersville Yacht Club, we got busy...very busy. And not a lot of other companies wanted to get involved. But people needed help," says Helms when he talks about the 24/7 days to get clean-up operations finished on Lake Guntersville.
Salvage operation would require an estimate from the company. They must come out and assess any situation.
"No two cases are alike. Ever," says Helms. From sinking boats to lost cargo to clean-up on rivers and lakes, marine salvage is not easy to find in our part of the country.
